The exhibition looks at the seminal practice of Oswald Oberhuber (1931–2020) as an artist, exhibition organizer, critic, and university rector; his impact on the University of Applied Arts Vienna from the 1970s to the 1990s; and an art-political discourse that remains relevant to this day. His design concepts cut across all areas of the university, including the founding of an art collection, while his examination of the history of the university, “Austrian art history,” and the effects of the Nazi regime were central. The Oberhuber School uses the holdings of the collection and archive to examine the potential of a university collection to critically interrogate art historical narratives.
