BACKWATER

"BACKWATER" explores the artist‘s journey of dealing with her origin, cultural influences, and the impact of recent events in her homeland Belarus and neighbouring countries. The motives for the drawings and woodcuts are inspired by Belarusian landscapes and childhood memories, processed through the filters of adulthood, research, and life experiences that have revealed the deeper, less idyllic aspects of those memories. Just like a swamp landscape, both enchanting and dangerous, the title Backwater serves as a metaphor to represent the intricate and precarious region and its current political situation.
