For the period of the Angewandte Festival, the Oskar-Kokoschka-Platz is being "aufgeschult" (becomes a tree nursery). Balled trees will create a new quality of stay at the square and change it spatially and climatically: through an intervention that started with the idea of a square design and led into the depths of tree nurseries. The concept for the temporary redesign came from Jakob Lena Knebl. At the Angewandte she holds a professorship for Transmedial Art and heads the department. The project was developed and realized in close collaboration with the HBLFA for Gartenbau and Österreichische Bundesgärten, which researches and educates on urban trees. The nursery trees draw a parallel to the Angewandte as a school and university. Besides the trees, garden benches invite visitors to linger. The catering comes from the garden huts. After the festival the trees create greenery in new places! We thank Thomas Roth and Hannes Lenz from the HBLFA for Gartenbau and Österreichische Bundesgärten, the Bundesgärten at Augarten and Hornbach for their support.
