The “Biodesign – plant based” exhibition in the Biolab presents current projects carried out at the Department of Building Construction of Petra Gruber in her “BIODESIGN” course and doctoral theses works. The Biolab is a temporary facility for artistic research using biology, and specifically, plants as role models, co-designers, and active design and production agents. “REUSE Vienna's municipal housing” by Aneliya Lüftner The work investigates the future of Vienna’s municipal housing through the reuse of dismantled building components and the transformation into bio-based environmentally responsive material systems, considering the ecological needs of species listed on Austria’s Red List. “TRIALOGUE – Plant, Machine, Human” by Stefan Kainbacher The work explores interactions between plants, artificial intelligence and human perception within a hybrid real-time system. Biosignals from living plants are translated into audiovisual processes, making distributed cognition and communication tangible.
