The karaoke-machine “Melodrome” depicts an experimental setup in which speech and karaoke are broken down to produce a continuous flow through associative singing. The machine gives tangible form to the process of linguistic. Speech is translated into gibberish so as not to interrupt the flow. What remains of language once the level of logic is removed? Does the machine distil that which has no place in language, since metaphysical expression carries no clear meaning? When interacting with “Melodrome”, meanings are not fixed but are instead transformed into a state of disorientation. It is only through practice that “Melodrome” creates a democratic space for the collective production of meaning.
