This year's festival design was developed by Mandy Zaninovic and Cheyenne Cattaneo in collaboration with Verena Müller (all three students of the Department of Design and Narrative Media) and directs curious glances in different directions. Ambiguous objects with spiky eyelashes move in space - partly arbitrary, motivated, partly rebellious.
Accessibility
The Angewandte strives to make the festival and especially the guided tours more barrier-free. Therefore, this year certain program points will be simultaneously translated into sign language.
One guided tour will be held in simple language and other program items will focus on multisensory communication. You can find more information about visiting the Angewandte Festival 2024 under Accessibility.
We look forward to hearing from you in advance if you have any specific requests: angewandtefestival@uni-ak.ac.at

Statement by Petra Schaper Rinkel (Rector)
The University of Applied Arts Vienna invites you to the Angewandte Festival 2024: artists, designers, scientists and graduates from all institutes and departments show works from the arts, design and theoretical disciplines as well as from inter-, trans- and cross-disciplinary programs. We present new forms of contemporary art practice, positions ranging from photography and installations to fashion, models, readings and transmedia interventions. With the festival, we bring people, perspectives and discourses together; we show what is possible at the Angewandte in terms of ideas, visions and realizations; what moves us and could move the world.
For the duration of the festival, Oskar-Kokoschka-Platz will be transformed into a car-free place for celebrations and gatherings.
Together, we will open up the university and its premises and invite you to discover new artistic practices, design and science during the festival and to get to know the positions of students and graduates.
Statement by Lena Kohlmayr (Festival Director)
The Angewandte Festival marks the end of the semester and has become an integral part of the university and the city. The annually changing temporary redesign of Oskar Kokoschka Square makes this inscription immediately tangible. The design of the “Piazza Novissima” was developed in a collaborative effort by Petra Gruber and Sam Jacob and realized by students and the Angewandte workshops. Colorful column-like elements test the square anew in order to draw attention to its qualities and alternative uses - in addition to its function as a street. The design of the square as part of the festival reflects what the festival is intended to be - an experiment, a space for possibilities, a place for exchange, discussion, critical, joyful and celebratory debate. The festival design by Mandy Zaninovic and Cheyenne Cattaneo, students of the Design and Narrative Media department, follows on directly from this by directing curious glances in different directions. Ambiguous objects with spiky eyelashes move through the space - partly arbitrary, motivated, partly rebellious - creating new connections in an experimental way. The dense program, which frames the exhibitions of the different departments as well as the final works, also reflects the diversity of the Angewandte. Have fun!

We would like to thank Hornbach and TIBA AUSTRIA GmbH for their generous support for this year's “Piazza Novissima” square design, which was developed by Sam Jacob together with Petra Gruber.
